Patterson FD 2012 Chief's Tahoe

7 posts in this topic

The Patterson Fire Department, in Putnam County New York, has taken delivery of their new Chiefs vehicle following conversion by Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury, CT. Designated 22-1-2, the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe (Police Package) functions as the department chief’s response vehicle and on scene command post.

Similar to many of the vehicles we fit out today, the lighting package is 100% Whelen LED based incorporating a Freedom lightbar with dual LED alleys & takedowns, four LINZ6s behind the front grille, Mirror Beams on each side view mirror and 4 “ round fog light LEDs that contain both red warning and white driving light modules. Red / white M4s were installed on each outer corner, LAW Hideaways in the taillights and an Outer Edge Pillar on each rear side of the cargo door. A solid state headlight flasher and Powercall siren with two 100m watt speakers behind the front grille, complete the warning system. Two additional split color LINZ6s were installed in the upper cargo door to provide supplemental lighting to the rear when the cargo door is in the raised position. Four Strip Lite compartment lights provide work area lighting within the cargo compartment while the two perimeter lights installed on the rear bumper operate with the OEM reverse lights and in conjunction with the cargo lighting to supply on scene ground safety.

The Extendo Bed sliding carrier provides storage for turnout gear, SCBA, handlight, Knox Box, scene command supplies, hand tools, portable extinguishers and T.I. camera. Two of the three department radios and a full complement of portable radio chargers were also installed on the carrier so as to be available when the unit is collapsed into the vehicle or fully extended.

The 24 inch Havis console contains all three department radios, the Powercall siren, Whelen lighting controller, storage box, dual cup holders, armrests and an additional portable radio charger.

Exterior graphics include gold leaf striping and lettering, white reflective side striping and a red & yellow safety chevron on the rear bumper. A Weather Tech hood deflector, side window rain guards and mud flaps were also added to the outside of the vehicle.

In the coming weeks, look for the video on this vehicle on our YouTube channel

Specialty Warning Systems extends it’s thanks to the Patterson FD for their confidence in us to provide their Chief’s new response vehicle, and we look forward to working with them on additional projects in the years to come.

Any particular reason why it's "police package" ?

Probably for state contract or bid pricing.

The police package and special service Tahoe come with heavy duty radiators and oil coolers in addition to stiffer suspension, power supply wiring to front and rear, and skid plate protection underneath standard. Previous vehicles were Denali's and we have had problems with wear and tear on the suspensions. This vehicle replaces a 2003.
