With the threat of state intervention looming, the Allen Park City Council (MI) has passed a balanced budget that eliminates the police and fire departments, reports WJBK Fox 2 Detroit (http://bit.ly/LB26lu). Emergency services will be outsourced.

The news station reports that Allen Park has sent a letter to neighboring cities asking if they would provide police and fire services.

Either consolidate on your own terms or get consolidated (or in this case eliminated). Even if the economy magically returned to growth and prosperity tomorrow, we'd be years away from catching up to years of cuts austerity budgets.

well "you get what you pay for" comes to mind, The City residents should fire everyone and start over. On the video that was on the link it sounds like there investiments fell through. Why would a city put all its egg's in one basket and who is going to be held accountable for that mess up.

True, but we're not exactly doing great. How many area depts have already been cut to the bone? Once you've reduced staffing and eliminated units, what's left?
