In case you're wondering the different, Trooper Trainee is for the Connecticut State Police, whereas Protective Services Trainee is for the following agencies:

Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services Police

Dept. of Children and Families Police

University of Connecticut Police

University of Connecticut Health Center Police (Farmington campus, right now this is a separate department but it will be merged into UConn PD in the next few years)

State University System (Southern, Western, Central, Eastern CT State Universities)

Community Technical College System

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) These are the DMV Inspectors that do trucks, weigh stations, inspections, etc.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Conservation Officers (EnCon) - Promoted to Conservation Enforcement Officer after completing training program.

Is Governor Malloy still fighting meeting the minimum requirement staffing level passed by the Legislature years ago, or would these candidates just fill the available pool should the number slip down enough that job slot openings occur through retirement and attrition at some distant future date?

Sue,

I THINK they are still trying to fight that, but since the legislative session is over I'm not sure what they can do until next session, so until then they are still mandated to have the 1,200-someodd Troopers, even though they've been below that for over 5 years.
