Part-Time/Per-Call FF's in Ohio Laid Off

Ohio has always been a little scary to me and here is a good example of why ... Hillsboro Oh Fire & rescue has passed out pink slips to 14 "part time " and 12 Volunteer Firefighters to make room for a paid force of 12 Paid firefighters and a paid Chief

The headline is correct, but the subsequent statement under the headline is misleading and false. I am a full time firefighter/paramedic for Hillsboro Fire & Rescue. We are a combination department and those 12 full time guys have always been there. We are not replacing the part time and paid on call ( not really volunteer) firefighters. We ran 4 full time and 2 part time personnel for a total of 6 on duty 24/7. The new administration has reduced our service area from approx. 2850 runs per year to 2400 runs per year. They immediately cut 66% of our available staffing by lay off notice and reduced daily staffing to 4, leaving only the current full time members and a Chief. Firehouse needs to correct this misinformation and do it quickly.
