A raging fire devoured an unoccupied house off Padanaram Road and was still burning at press time.

Dozens of career and volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze, which broke out after 9:30 p.m. and had fully engulfed the structure by the time emergency personnel arrived.

"Big house, big fire, no injuries. That's the story," Fire Chief Geoffrey Herald said.

Great quote by Geoff. Danbury Chiefs always on the mark with quotes. The late great Chief "jumpin"joe bertalovits was once asked how he new it was a 2nd alarm fire.... "I got two little hoses and two big hoses shooting water, we only use the big hose at 2nd alarms"

Not really, the Mayor responds to most structure fires in Danbury. He's pretty good about making sure the FD and the homeowners have everything they need.

Strangely enough, he was at a fire a few years back, responded in his city vehicle. The car caught fire in a driveway down the street from the house fire. Totally unrelated to the fire.
