Out and About: Vail Colorado Area

15 posts in this topic

Hello folks, I recently had the opportunity to take a ski trip out west. While this winter has been mostly warm, they still had decent skiing. I’d like to share some of the photos I took over my short vacation. Hope you enjoy them…

Great shots as always Kyle, thanks for sharing!

I went skiing once this season and it was horrible. Was in the beginning of the season at Wyndham and it was soo icy that it wasnt even enjoyable.

Your pictures remind me of my trip last year to Oregon and Washington State, soo gorgeous out there.

Vail, and Colorado in general are at the top of the "must visit" list for my wife and i.

As for your question as to what movie that house was feaured in, ill bite...was it "The Glass House?"

Thanks! This winter was one of the worst ski seasons ever. So I'm not supprised Windham was a sheet of ice. It was typical spring skiing weather out west, 40-50's in the day with soft snow then below freezing at night. The mornings were a little icy. Colorado is beautiful! I would certainlty suggest it. On my list is denver, I've never stayed in denver, just driven through it. they have a great fire museum that I really want to visit. Denver also has some of the best food around.

It wasn't "The Glass House". For a hint, the movie was a comedy film produced in the 70's. The house overlooks I-70. Any other guesses? The house itself is famous in colorado and was recently bought and fixed up.

Awesome photos! I love the variety!

My Brother-In-Law lives in Vail, works on the Ski Lifts. And I have aunts, uncles, cousins , and friends who live in the Denver area. Now I have a place to stay and a reason to visit, lol!

Doesn't look like they had that much snow either. Hope you had a good time regardless.

As for the runaway pits, they have them in the east. There are a few on Rt 9 between Bennington, VT and Wilmington,VT in east and westbound. I think I have seen the elsewhere, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

Who manufactured the two Eagle County ambulances?

There was snow on the mountains but once you get into the valley (still 6,000+ feet), the snow goes away :( I didn't know that they have runaway ramps in the east, always thought it was a west thing. The Ambulances you are questioning are Life Line Paraliners, sold by Rocky Mountain Emergency Vehicles.

If anyone wants info on Colorado FD's, check out 5280Fire.com. They've got great photos and helpfull inforation on Colorado's fire service.

Correct, this is the "Sleeper" House. Sleeper was a 1973 film by Woody Allen. That house was featured in the movie several times and is now owned privately. It was built by Charles Deaton on Genesee Mountain near Genesee Park, Colorado. And, thank you!

I saw Vail's ladder truck in FAJ a couple years back. Very nice pics! I definitely want to go there as well. I think somebody else on the forums went to Vail and posted last year or something ( Might have been you, firedude).

Great stuff there, that's gotta be the first time I've ever seen a Volvo used as a police car. At least here in the US anyways.
