Ferrara Awarded Additional $13 Million FDNY Aerial Contract

Holden, LA – Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc., America’s premier custom fire apparatus manufacturer, has been awarded thirteen additional 100’ rear mount aerial ladders by the City of New York Fire Department. With this latest order, a total of 54 of FDNY aerials will carry the Ferrara nameplate.

Many of the aerials from the initial phase of the contract are now in service throughout the city. “Of course, the only way we could actually prove our product was by putting them into service,” noted company President and CEO Chris Ferrara. “The feedback we’ve been getting from the department as a whole, along with the crews who work on these aerials, couldn’t be better. These aerial trucks meet all the standards FDNY has set for us: Tough, heavy duty, dependable and easy for the firefighters to work with.”

As with the previous forty-one 100’ aerials, these will be built on Ferrara’s Ultra custom chassis, featuring an all stainless steel cab with a split tilt design, seating for six. These are also the second set of chassis driven by a Cummins ISX11.9 500 horsepower engine. The aerial is a four section, rear mount ladder with a 100’ vertical reach. Its compact design is well suited to the congested streets of New York and the 10’ 10” travel height will easily fit into FDNY’s historic fire stations that have low door openings.
