Nassau County FD's Get $661K FEMA Grant

FLORAL PARK — More than 75 volunteer fire departments and ambulance companies in Nassau County will get a $661,000 grant from FEMA to upgrade their mobile communications and radio systems. Fire officials say the money will help the departments meet a federal mandate that requires their communications systems do not currently have without raising taxes. The push was sparked by the first responders who lost their lives on September 11th in part due to communications failures.

Congrats to the Nassau County Fire Departments who are recieving this grant... but how can you not put a federal mandate in your budget? I guess they were really hoping for this grant?
