Seagrave Introduces New Mid Mount Aerial Platform and

Enhances Aerial Ladder Offering

Clintonville, Wis… Seagrave Fire Apparatus is adding a 100-foot and 75-foot mid

mount aerial platform to its rear mount aerial platform and Aerialscope product offering.

The company is also announcing the availability of a removeable aerial ladder tip and a

notched-roof option on its raised-roof Concorde cab.

New Mid Mount Aerial Platform

The 100-foot 5-section and 75-foot 5-section mid mount aerial platforms, called

TowerMax MM are designed for a 1,000-pound platform capacity (dry), and a 500-

pound load while flowing up to 2,000 gallons per minute (GPM) of water, depending on

options.

The TowerMax MM aerial ladder features heavy-duty modular construction and an

advanced extension system. The ladder is constructed of steel to withstand high heat

when in close proximity to fire. Reinforced gusseting and K-bracing serve to minimize

aerial deflection. The extension system provides optimum cylinder power for a smooth

operation and a secure ride. High-density wear pads are positioned between

telescoping sections for maximum weight distribution, strength and smooth operation.

The aerial ladder features sturdy handrails and aggressive stepping surfaces for

maximum safety. Steel material of 70,000 and 100,000 PSI is used for lighter weight

and stronger aerials.

The elevation angles range from -12 to 75 degrees for both models, making these units

invaluable for low and high grade rescues. The low angle of the mid mount platform

allows easy access from the ground of 30 feet from the truck at -12 degrees.

The TowerMax MM aerial platform uses out-and-down, H-Style outriggers with

independent joystick controls for horizontal and vertical extension of beam and jack

cylinders. The outrigger spread is 17’6” at the front and 15’6” at the rear for the 100-

foot, and 15’6” front and rear for the 75-foot. The ground penetration is 16 inches which

provides stability on rough or steep terrain. The unit offers easy service access to

hydraulic outrigger cylinders. The outriggers deploy in full operator view of outriggers

and the side of the vehicle. A load light indicates when the outrigger jack is firmly on the

ground.

The platform has a sturdy steel frame with aluminum side panels, doors and non-slip

decking. It provides optimum rescue and water tower capabilities, while maintaining a

minimum overall size. Automated electric-over-hydraulic leveling with manual override

provides safer operation and access to and from the platform. A dual inward, selflatching

door design allows for safe, unimpeded access. The access from the ladder

sections has a mansaver bar for extra safety. Other safety features include a lighted

platform floor and a heat-reflective shield on the bottom, sides and front of the platform,

reflecting heat away from crewmembers, providing an increased level of safety and

comfort, along with an easy-to-clean access door.

The platform features 19 square feet of interior space which allows better traffic flow

and ease of movement for four crewmembers and equipment. The exterior deck

features angled corners that allow the platform to be moved in close proximity to the

target area. The platform offers optional storage boxes, ideal for storing air masks,

hoses, and rescue stretcher arms, plus mounting brackets for axes and spanner

wrenches, and rescue arms for supporting a basket stretcher or attaching a roof ladder.

The TowerMax MM aerial platform has multiple locations for controlling the aerial

functions, including turntable and platform as standard, and radio remote controls as

optional. Crewmembers also have access to monitor override controls from inside the

platform, allowing monitor and water flow to be repositioned in the event of an electrical

problem. Soft-touch controls allow feather-soft movement of all aerial functions,

including automatic slow down when reaching full extension or full retraction. Soft-touch

controls also have reduced speeds from five degrees to negative 12 for both the 100-

foot and 75-foot platform, along with slow down from 70 to 75 degrees for elevation.

The turntable has powerful cylinders to lift a 1,000 pound platform load (dry). It has a

2:1 structural and 1.5:1 stability factor for optimum safety. A dual planetary gear for the

100-foot platform and a single planetary gear for the 75-foot platform allows for smooth

360 degrees continuous rotation. Bearing bolts are easily accessed and torqued from

the top side. Its eccentric planetary drive allows easy gear alignment.

Another advantage of the Seagrave aerial platform is the nozzle coverage. The deck

gun has a 90-degree turning angle to either side that provides a full 180-degree water

coverage without having to reposition the platform.

The TowerMax MM mid mount aerial platforms are available in quint or non-quint

combinations, and are available on Seagrave’s Commander, Marauder and Concorde

chassis. The body choices are stainless steel or aluminum. The platforms are fully

integrated into Seagrave chassis, and are serviced by Seagrave and its dealer network.

These two mid mount aerial platforms complement Seagrave’s rear mount aerial

platform models, as well as its Aerialscope.
