After a 4-year hiring freeze, NYSP has TENTATIVE approval for a class of 140 positions to begin in April of 2012. If you'rer highly ranked on the last list, good luck.

Update as of 01/23/12:

In anticipation of an April 2012 Academy class, the New York State Police will be conducting candidate processing in February 2012, for applicants through the list rank of 2,403. Applicants whose application status is active and are in consideration should receive a processing package during the week of January 23, 2012.

Candidates who were processed more than a year ago will need to be processed again. You will need to complete the "Attention Candidate" documentation package. Additionally you will need to bring any updates to documents that may have changed (e.g. college transcripts) since the original processing.

The State Budget is also tentatively allowing for a 2nd class in 2012, to commence in October, and containing 90 new positions.
