40th Senate District’s 1st Annual Law Enforcement and Fire Prevention Roundtable Summit Meeting

Friday, January 6, 2012, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This meeting will take place at The Paladin Center which is located at 39 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel, NY 10512.

The primary goal of the Law Enforcement and Fire Prevention Roundtable Summit Meeting is to introduce the 40th Senate District's law enforcement and fire prevention community to Jerome M. Hauer, the Governor's appointee for Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security. Secondly, Senator Ball would like to provide a forum for each county and local municipality in the 40th Senate District to share feedback concerning the training and development needs of their police and fire departments and to discuss their current emergency preparedness plans.

Our tentative agenda is as follows:

10:00 AM to 1:00 PM – Introduction of Jerome M. Hauer, Governor Andrew Cuomo's appointee for Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security and roundtable discussion on the training and development needs of the 40th Senate District’s law enforcement and fire prevention community and to discuss emergency preparedness plans.

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM – Tour of the Paladin Center (training center for law enforcement and fire first responders) to observe first responder training and development programs.

4:00 PM Meeting is adjourned.

The summit today was called by Senator Greg Ball to introduce the new Commissioner of NYS Homeland Security, Mr Jerome Hauer. Second to the introduction was a round table discussion by PD/FD and EMS representatives from within the 40th Senate district of NYS.

All discussion went well and many questions were asked of both Senator Ball and Commisioner Hauer. Specifically "how to work in or around" the many unfunded training mandates imposed by NYS. Even more specifically the discussion was about tactical teams (ESU, ERU, SRT and SWAT) as well as Special Operations and HAZMAT.

Questioned were posed, off record, to both the Senator and Commissioner regarding the monies that have been allocated to other regions of NYS specifically the Oneida County region.

I would suggest following Senator Ball (ball4ny.com or www.nysenate.gov/senator/greg-ball) and the news media to see how it will progress.

I can say firsthand that Senator Ball cares about the safety of NY. His questions and above all answers were all on point and it is clear that he has a good understanding of the job we do. Even more so the help we need to do it.
