About 7:45 a.m., Jody Eugene Baker, 35, of Amarillo, was the passenger in an eastbound Ford pickup on Interstate 40 at Farm-to-Market Road 1912, the Department of Public Safety said.

The driver lost control of the vehicle on the 1912 overpass because of icy conditions, DPS said. The vehicle left the highway on the south side of the road and rolled down the overpass embankment, DPS said. A justice of the peace pronounced Baker, who was wearing a seat belt, dead at the scene. Baker, a Pantex firefighter, had been a Randall County firefighter for many years, said Randall County Fire Chief James Amerson.
