New Rochelle Fire Dept. 150th Anniversary

11 posts in this topic

Due to economic conditions the Fire Department was unable to hold a special parade to celebrate this event. The New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce’s Parade committee has offered to expand the annual Thanksgiving Parade to honor the 150th Anniversary.

The Executive Board of The Uniformed Fire Fighters Association Local 273 has determined that we should not miss this opportunity to celebrate this event and honor past and present members.

The 2011 Valenti Thanksgiving Parade date is scheduled for Saturday, November 19th Step off promptly at 10:00 am on North Ave. in front of New Rochelle High School

(Members marching need to be there at 9:00 am.)

The route from the High School is South on North Avenue to Main Street, Right on Main Street (against traffic) to Maple Avenue.

The reviewing stand for parade and elected officials is at the corner of Main and Memorial Highway. This is also the location of the city's cable coverage of the parade.

Please come support us and enjoy the parade.

Members of the NYSPFFA are requested to march with us in dress uniform. Please check with your local to see if they are participating as a group.

Those with questions feel free to PM or e-mail me.

Thank you for your support.

IF THE CITY WANTS TO LAYOFF.......BOYCOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CITY.

IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO MARCH, MARCH AS A UNION, NOT AS A DEPARTMENT, WITH ALL THOSE ABOUT TO GET LAID OFF LEADING THE WAY.

IF YOU WANT TO PICKET AND RALLY THAT DAY, LET ALL OF US KNOW AND WE WILL STAND WITH OUR BROTHERS, GOD ONLY KNOWS THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS.

LAYOFFS SUCK....WE LOST 9 LAST MAY, AND THE EFFECTS WILL LAST FOREVER.

As sad and horrible it is that the City of New Rochelle is considering laying off 6 Firefighters, the celebration of the 150 year Anniversary of the NRFD is a time to remember all of those members from the past (as well as the present) that put their lives on the line to protect the city. I think that those marching in this parade are doing so to remember those individuals. Hopefully, other surrounding departments (Eastchester, Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, White Plains, etc) will have members/rigs marching in the same parade to help honor the memory of the past 150 years. Hey, maybe the Yonkers FD will bring over their restored 1950's ALF Mid Mount Truck 5 to march in the parade!

The parade is not run by the City, it is run by the chamber of commerce. Layoffs will cost them more in insurance and they know it.

And this invite is coming from the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association Local 273.

The parade offer has been in the works since spring and its to honor the those who are serving and those who have served.

We have had layoffs in the past and picketing and rallies have never in our city changed the political will. But the public has a major say in what happens. So this is a great opportunity to show the public the significance of the NRFD.

We are asking you to stand with us. Thank You for your support.

Sorry Brother, we remembered them in October at our annual memorial service. This really sucks for our job and those members involved. When are the people going to get it!!!! It does not cost that much for police and fire protection. The school budget is 64%, the county budget is 18% and the city budget is 18%. Your taxes do not go to public saftey as much as they go to the schools. please stop lumping us into the same category. This is BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are several apparatus that are usually in the parade. I will be there in front of Iona College if you want to stand with me.

After the City Changed its manning policy for today. The UFFA Local 273 has decided that members will not be participating in this years parade. Effective this morning we are at our lowest staffing level in 75 years.

Lo Hud

Beginning today, the New Rochelle Fire Department's minimum staffing level will be 24 firefighters, down from 27.

Cuts to New Rochelle Fire Department Begin This Week, Ladder-12 to Close

This was originally only threatened under the 2012 proposed budget. But it was pushed up and is now in effect.

Absolutely crazy that New Rochelle will be down to only 2 ladder companies. Mutual Aid will then be more prevelant in case of major fires in New Rochelle, that require a 3rd Ladder company. CAN WE AGAIN SAY "REGIONALIZATION" and "COUNTY-WIDE" FIRE DEPARTMENT.
