As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, we’re working in partnership with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for any type of hazard, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information should it ever be needed.

It was displayed on my home television. The test lasted all of 10 seconds.

Test was only supposed to last 30 seconds. It was orginally supposed to last the normal 2 minutes, but because a "live" code was being used the "This is a test" scroll bar would not appear on all TV's. Because of this the broadcasters association told the FCC that it could cause a "War of the Worlds" type mass panic, and asked for it to be shortened or canceled.

It was the first time they ever did a nation wide test. The FEMA spokesman on the news tonight even said that they needed to test out to figure out if there were failures to find out what went wrong and how to fix it.

Can't call this an epic fail, a face-palm definitely, not an epic fail............yet.

First nationwide Emergency Alert System test hits glitches

Washington (CNN) -- Problems were reported across the country during the first-ever nationwide test Wednesday of the Emergency Alert System, designed to allow the president to address the American people during a national emergency.

The ability to communicate on a large scale during a national emergency is very important. But considered that during the single biggest emergency in the 40-50 years of the EAS....September 11, 2001.....it was not even used.

CNN & other media coverage was able to inform the public reasonable well.
