Raytheon Polar Services Company is currently recruiting ARFF certified Firefighters, Lieutenants and Captains to support the United States Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for people to deploy to McMurdo or, South Pole Antarctic research stations for various periods of time. Summer season generally begins in August or October/early November and runs through the following February. Winter-over contracts generally begin in February and run through August or October.

Contract compensation & program amenities include:

• Weekly salary; subject to all federal, state, & local taxes

• Reimbursement of expenses to physically qualify

• Travel to and from Antarctica

• Housing and Meals

• Extreme cold weather gear (see participant guide for complete list)

• Comprehensive benefit package

• Performance-based bonus upon successful completion of contract (0-20% of earned salary for first contract year)

• Recreational activities

If a position is offered, employment is contingent upon applicant’s ability to:

• Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

• Pass strict physical, dental and psychological (winter contracts only) examinations

• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

• Obtain a current passport

EDUCATION: Bachelor degree required. Bachelor degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety or related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Officer II; Fire Instructor I; Airport Fire Fighter; Hazardous Materials First Responder: Incident Commander; and EMT-B or higher required. National Incident Management System (NIMS): ICS 100 and 200 required. Valid state driver’s license is required.

IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Driver Operator Pumper/Mobile Water Supply; Driver Operator ARFF; Hazardous Materials Technician; and Fire Officer III preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of diversified fire fighter experience, including incident command and fire administration, is required. At least two years of experience as a supervisor is required.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate of Science degree in Fire Science is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Firefighter I/II; Fire Officer I; Airport Fire Fighter; Hazardous Materials First Responder: Operations; and EMT-B are required. National Incident Management System (NIMS): ICS 100 and200 required. Valid state driver’s license is required.

EXPERIENCE: Two years experience in Emergency Service Dispatch (9-1-1) radio operations, communications technology or related field is required

yes and in fact is linked to "this post" which includes "Fire Captain", "Fire Lieutenant", and "Firefighter-EMT/Paramedic" and well as this Singular "Fire/ems Dispatcher job" posting this was not intented to screw up the entire board, BUT was added when further information was located for anyone who might be interested and have the required education and certifications

For the young members of this fourm considering becoming career firefighters it is worth considering military service and especially firefighting. An air force active duty firefighter would have the qualifications for these jobs. Veterans points are a part of civil service and military service will always look good on a resume. It can also help pay for college. There are plenty of former military firefighters in the career fire service. I'm sure there are some on this board that can provide further information.
