Is there an Animal Response Team?

33 posts in this topic

so does this team take all types of animals??? i know down south they r having a huge problem with rock pythons in the glades...is this team able to accomidate someone with a snake as a pet??

I can't speak to the policies of the NY ART Teams, but in my experience with OEM in the New Haven area, CT's State Animal Response Team for Region 2 only takes domesticated, household animals. They just don't have the resources to house some of those more exotic or large animals. Its not perfect, but they can accomidate most people. It should also be noted that they are to be housed SEPARATELY from the families, and those families can visit with their animals during designated hours. Only those with a specific wristband given at check-in may enter the pet shelter.

I have no clue. But I wouldn't think so. There is a huge difference between NY and Florida when it comes to having to find your python and monitor lizard a new home. NY they will die within the winter months, they have no true source of food, and this is nothing like their habitats. Florida, you have that humidity, food source, heat, shelter, water, and their instincts get them one slither away from everglades heaven. I think FL has finally realized they'd rather pay to find them homes during disaster or an evac, as compared to cleaning up the mess they have been leaving behind by taking over. I was in Ft. Lauderdale 2 weeks ago, there are species from Haiti, Colombia, El Salvador, Cuba. and those are just the boat hoppers that populated here. Not to mention little timmy's 9ft rock python, or joe's 6ft asian water monitor that just got too big to take care of....

My kid dragged me to a reptile show at the County Center. I took a card for a reptile rescue group. I think they were Brookly based. 718 436 5163. I never tried the number.

When I go to a job and see an empty tank, my #1 assessment question is , "What was supposed to be in there?".
