West Harrison Apparatus

15 posts in this topic

Seeing that West Harrison is having their 100 Anniversary celebrations in the next couple of weeks, I thought I would post some of the pictures that I have found digging through my collection. Had the pleasure and sometimes frustration serving on all of these. Looking at them brought back alot of memories. These photos were taken by myself or Gus Strets.

Cool shots!

Is it true that West Harrison's Mack CF TL shown above was a piggyback to an FDNY order?

It looks identical to the TMFD old Eng-36 which was a 1956 ward la france.

Surprised it wasn't put in the FDMV Station 2 Graveyard. But, I guess that the Station 2 Graveyard is full with the Old MackCF Engine 1 along with the Foam Unit that was never put into use are "Resting In Peace" (Surprised that Yonkers FD did not pick up that Old Aiport Unit (aka FDMV Foam Unit) and looked to refurb it and place it down at their Special Operations Garage?)

Reguarding FDMV old truck 4.... it has been sold to a collector, it`s been sitting here for awhile because he was injured (accident). and couldn`t come get it.

maybe the foam truck sounded like good idea at that time, but it was a major mistake to get it for many reason`s ,like...where ya gonna put it? who`s going to man it?the turning radius is for huge open space`s ,it has old air/over hydrolic brakes that were antiquated and broken. tires batteries etc. and Mt. Vernon fire dept. hates to spend money. The truck was made for airports !!!!not city streets.

Photo's look great, thanks for sharing them. I remember seeing most of those apparatuses as a kid. Brings back memories. As for the old 265, didn't Harrison paint that Engine up in light blue, and used it for a water truck for the DPW? Then later on switched it back? What ever happen to engine 265?
