Firefighter One Courses

4 posts in this topic

Hey everyone i am 18 years old and i recently just joined the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department. I am also in the Sleepy Hollow Ambulance Corps. My EMT course at IVAC is finishing in May 2005. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about any Firefighter I classes starting now or close to the summer? We have a lot of young new members who need training. If anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it thanks

Here is the website for the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services. This is where you will find a list of upcoming courses being offered. It doesn't appear to be any FF-I courses scheduled for that time period as of yet. You may have to check the website quite frequently to see if any courses become available. These courses tend to fill up pretty quickly, soo keep checking & keep up on your training officer and/or Chief to find you a class! Congrats on starting with the SHFD & SHVAC, best of luck to you. Hope my info was helpful & good luck finding something!

You could also check out the Rockland County Fire Training Center. It looks like they are running a FF-I course in May/June, but that may be too early for what you're looking for. But again, keep checking this website as well to see whats being offered. Heres the website:

*Note: The Rockland FTC is actually not that far away. If you're in Sleepy Hollow, you would just take I-287 over the Tappen-Zee bridge into Rockland. Take I-287 to the Palisades Parkway Northbound (it should be Exit 13-N). Then take the Palisades Northbound to either Exit-12 or 13 (either one will get you there).

You said you were 18, so i'm not sure what your summer plans are but...You could look into taking FF-I up at the State Fire Academy in Montour Falls. Its a bit of a hike and you'd be best off staying up there. But you may be able to find a class that runs Monday-Friday 8-4 or whatever. Heres the NYS Academy of Fire Science website:
