Columbia County Convention Parade

34 posts in this topic

I had the chance to attend a parade this past Saturday with my family, as my Wife and Son were marching in the band they belong too. MY department did not march, so I was able to watch...however, I had our 3 year old daughter with me, so most of my attention was with her...lol

I am NO Bill Johnson, nor do I have a great camera...just a point and shoot...but any picture is better than no picture.

BUT FIRST - A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

NO matter how cool you think you look, wearing your bell cap backwards is DISRESPECTFUL TO YOUR UNIFORM, YOUR DEPARTMENT, AND THE FIRE SERVICE AS A WHOLE.

For the life of me, I can NOT figure out why people do this!?

These are JUST the guys I saw before the parade...there were TONS MORE like this afterwards at the food tent...

(Disclaimer; YES, I am a dick, YES it bothers me THAT much, and NO, I had nothing better to do)

Rescue 129!!!! I am kinda partial to this beast!

And to boot - it is an E-One with Aerodynic rotator bars...classic American Iron here.

Maybe someone familiar with this pecie can shed some light on it...It looked spectacular head on coming down the road......then you see it broadside and you're like, "What....The....FiretrUCK?"

The cab is HUGE.....the rig is Tall...but the wheelbase on my Suburban is longer!

Churchtown, NY

And the whole reason for being there!

My little man, banner carrier extroidinarre...marched the 2 miles, uphill, in the heat without complaining. I just HAVE to get him to stop waving! LOL

Also visible is the most beautiful flag carrier in the USA directly behind him.

Looks like they ran out of funding when the truck was half-finished.

Pine Plains, NY Rescue.

This rig is sharp looking...I'd love to see this box on a nice 6 man custom cab though.

Wear it like you earned it, not given to you two weeks before parade season so your company could all look the same to try to win a few more trophies.

Depending on the location and nature of me wearing my class As, my bell cap (or cover, depending on who I am talking to) is either on the head like it should be if I was marching, under my arm, brim and badge out facing the front or back on the rig/in the house after I have put it to full use during whatever function I was required to wear it.

My class As might not fit totally right, might be a little hot and uncomfortable and might only be brought out for funerals and parades but damned if I am going to disrespect 85+ years of my departments and 200+ years of fire service history.

If you wore your cover like that in the military I am just about certain there would be some sort of charges brought against you. Since the FD is a para military institution and the FD uniform is modeled after those of the Navy maybe it should be the same with charges. It's so disrespectful to wear it like that. Its not a grungy old baseball cap on a hot summer day as you mow the lawn. It's the a symbol that you are a firefighter and it should be worn with respect and distinction or dont wear it at all and stand on the side walk as a spectator.

Valatie's ladder truck is extremely similar to that of Ossining Fire Dept's Ladder 41. Same design, diff name/paint job. That rescue truck you were talking about from Churchtown is INSANE! I've never seen a firetruck with such a short wheel base and have so much overhang. It almost looks to be top heavy.
