Trial-by-Fire: Training New Medical School Students as EMTs

I found this interesting article on Time.com.

Essentially Hofstra's Medical School is training all new medical students to be EMT's during their first two years. This initiative is to increase doctor/patient communication as well as to have new doctors understand the world of pre-hospital medicine.

There is one interesting quote in the article I would like to share:

"The student is actually providing a service. Patients being attended to by EMTs by definition need help and, while EMTs cannot provide more than limited medical interventions, in the settings in which they work, they actually are more capable than physicians, as any honest doctor who has stopped at an accident scene will tell you,"-UCSF's Dr. Cooke
