Bensalem’s public safety director suspended one of the township’s volunteer fire companies Monday, citing “operational issues” that posed a safety risk to both residents and firefighters....

...Harran said Union’s leadership blatantly failed to follow directions.

For example, he said the company has responded to fires with only two firefighters instead of the required four in an effort to beat the township’s relatively new paid firefighters to the scene. He added that some of Union’s volunteers delayed giving water to the township’s paid firefighters at a blaze on State Road in April.

Harran said his office has had these issues with Union for at least 18 months....
