amazing how often common sense is overlooked to blindly "play by the book"

Interesting to see the media, and the Unions in this piece. As always, I'm sure there's more to the story than just this.

But where did the £1,500 come from? So, two stations were retained / paid on call. The other crews were on duty so ther's no extra cost for them. Did they have any other calls or backfill with more retained personel?

How about fuel? Well, at 10:45 would they be out anyway?

Anyway, good to see the local lads took care of it - and were able to do so with out getting reprimanded for it!

On a different but similar vein: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/east-hampshire/fury_over_rescue_delay_after_man_dies_in_gosport_lake_1_2496102

Ms Hughes said: ‘He could have still been alive. How did they know it was too late for him? It’s a disgrace. I’ve got no faith in the fire brigade now.

‘I said “go and get him, he’s only been in there five minutes”. But they said they couldn’t. Whether he was dead by that time I don’t know.

‘I asked one of them why they didn’t go in and he said they couldn’t go any deeper than ankle deep.’

I liked one of the comments posted by a reader. I've never seen a dead cat on a roof. He is absolutely right. Leave some food at the bottom of the tree or outside, the cat will find its way down soon enough.

Wait now

You need a RIT team, staging area manager, Resource & Sit/Sat manager, traffic control, Air Unit, Rehab unit, covers to fill the empty houses, etc

Eh-hem, that's Traffic Control GROUP! Also, that's getting mighty close to the span of control, might want to set up some Division Supervisors, Group Supervisors or Section Chiefs... :P

Are you kidding me? They dispatched the HART (High Angle Rescue Team)!!:blink: I'm assuming that's what they mean by Firefighters with specialist in height training with four or five strong.

Real call , myself as MPO and my partner where getting many phone calls about a cat in a tree, after about 5 calls we made up our minds that we were going to put a stop to this. We took Engine 58 out to the street that we were getting the calls, as my partner was talking to the crazy lady that would not stop I put the engine in pump rasied the trottle and climed up to the deck gun got it in place and yelled down that we were ready to take the cat out of the tree .Engine 58 in service! NO MORE PHONE CALLS !

Bravo

We found another way for those on the rescue (no pump)...

Those who understand shooting skeet will get this...in reverse.

When shooting skeet, you yell "PULL", then a clay pigion is thrown into the air and you try to "SHOOT" it.

Hence...PULL...BANG.

For the Rescue Company you take out your Bridger Line Gun.

and you "SHOOT" it then have someone "PULL" the rope, and the rope, brass rod and the cat should come right down.

Just send a copter and let the down draft blow the cat off the roof

Clearly this should have been handled by Law Enforcement and not the FD. A periemeter should have been set up along with ESU and a Hostage/Crisis Negotiator called in to open a dialogue with the E.D.F. (Emotinally Disturbed Feline). ;)
