Putnam's Oldest Volunteer Firefighter, 104, Passes Away

PATTERSON — The oldest volunteer firefighter in Putnam County, S. Delvalle "Del" Goldsmith of the Patterson Fire Department, died Saturday, two weeks shy of his 105th birthday.

An attorney by profession, Goldsmith was Patterson's chaplain emeritus at the time of his death but had served the department in many capacities, including firefighter and, later, with the Fire Police. The life member served actively from 1955 to 2000.
