Second that. Prayers for the police officers involved here. I hope the officer that was shot isn't too seriously wounded.

NBC news at 6pm said that one officer, a 20 year veteran, was shot in the head and another officer sustained a GSW. Apparently the wife was found deceased in her car, and the husband was holding their 3 Y.O. while waving a gun. The officers managed to get the child out of harm's way.

Here's to a speedy, full recovery to all of the involved officers, and my heart goes out to the child, who is now parentless.

From the POJO news:

"A City of Poughkeepsie police officer has died after he was shot in the head this afternoon. Police did not release the name of the officer pending notification of his extended family. The suspect and his wife are dead"

Please respect the desire of the family and do not identify anyone until the information is made public.

My deepest sympathy, and prayers go out to all of the emergency responders that were involved in this tragedy today.

R.I.P Officer your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Officer. May the injured Officer recover quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Poughkeepsie PD and their families and friends. Getting VERY dangerous out there for law enforcement.

I am still reeling over the events that have unfolded over the last 24 hours here in Poughkeepsie. I cannot even begin to express my sympathy, and sorrow, for the families of the slain officer, both his blood, and professional families. You are all in my thoughts.

To all the brothers and sisters in the City, my sincerest condolences. I am 100% certain that anything you need, you just ask, and we all will do, at the drop of a hat.

While I cannot officially represent everyone, from myself, at the least, your neighbor over at County.

Officer Falcone, I salute you. The true content of your character shines through the tragic outcome. Rest In Peace, you served faithfully, and have been taken to a higher calling, and can now take your post.

The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,

...Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining.

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,

Because those of us who carry badges

can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,

and at times my talk was rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep....

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,

Lord, It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,

You've borne your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in hell."

An Angel In The Sky Must Leave His Place Of Rest,

Gently Tucking His Wings Beneath His Armored Vest.

For Duty Has Called, There Is Much Work To Do

Little Did He Know, This One Is Dressed In Blue.

Arriving On The Scene, He Knows Just What To Say,

............"Follow Me, Fallen Brother, I'll Show You The Way."

"Your Duty Has Ended, Your Work Is Now Through."

"Come Hang Your Hat Beside Mine, I'm A Cop, Too."
