Well there are pros and cons to both straight sticks and tower ladders, and thats why FDNY runs them both.

The old Mack 75' single axle TL's went up pretty quick.

Before my brief time.... :P

I have seen a few of the '94 TL's around as spares (44 Truck and 17 Truck were kicking the same spare back and forth...). While they're total rust buckets, the set-up and maneuvering of the aerial was much faster and smoother than even the MOST recent rigs. What have they changed? The newest Aerialscopes are as slow as can be.
