Study Guides for Tests

My son is looking to take tests for fire and police. What books are good for study guides? Barrons? Arco? Any others out there. I appreciate any input.

For the money, the Arco book are probably the better ones. These books will help with the reading, sentence, and paragraph type questions which now are a major part of all civil service tests. Back in the day when I was taking tests (have been in law enforcement for 28 years now)in order to score well on the tests, one had to have a basic working knowledge of law enforcement or the fire service. To get that knowledge, one had to take Police/Fire science classes, become a Police Cadet or Volunteer Firefighter. However, over the years, those types of questions have been ruled to be discriminatory and are no longer part of the tests (Which is why I have a problem understanding what is wrong with the FDNY tests). Today, you get points for spelling your name right. The tests today involve basic reading interpretation, sentence and paragraph structure questions. No math (discriminatory) and no job related questions (also discriminatory)
