Latest flap in turf war: Deputies write tickets

GOSHEN A minor turf dispute between the Orange County Sheriffs Office and Village of Goshen police escalated last week when sheriffs deputies stationed themselves on Main Street for several hours and wrote a dozen tickets for motor-vehicle violations.

No one is disputing the legitimacy of the traffic stops. But the deputies presence on Thursday apparently was meant to send a message, and it has prompted plans for Sheriff Carl DuBois and Goshen Mayor John Higgins to meet to try to straighten out jurisdictional questions in the county seat.
