Plane, Medical helicopter collide in Virginia, 2 killed

WEYERS CAVE, Va. — Federal aviation officials say a small aircraft collided with a medical helicopter in the air Friday afternoon in rural western Virginia, killing two people on the plane.

RIP to those in the Cessena. It's amazing the helicopter was able to make a safe landing. Sounds like poor communications.

PHI is a gigantic helicopter company, that mostly ferries oil workers to and from drilling rigs in the Gulf. They also have a huge medical aviation arm, which is big in Texas. Unfortunately, they had a crash near San Antonio about 2 years ago, killing the local (to here in Austin) crew. The helicopter was so entrenched in the woods, they had to hire special equipment just to get to the site.
