Now it is time for people to freak out like always. Go to the supermarket just in case you are trapped in your house for a month. People in Westchester and surrounding areas need to learn how to drive and deal with snow. You know, there are places that get hammered by snow frequently and people still get around and survive without having heart attacks.

Looks like we dodged a bullet. The NWS dropped the Winter Storm Warning for us out here!

We still have the high wind and coastal flood warnings. The bulk of the snow is now forecast to be west of us.

At least we won't have to stock up on French toast!

News is reporting that I84 on the Putnam/Dutchess line is CLOSED.

In addition, it is my understanding that MTA and LIRR are also closed.

From Poughkeepsie Journal

The National Weather Service in Albany said spotters reported 18 inches of snow in LaGrangeville at 5:07 a.m. and 24 inches of snow in Hopewell Junction at 5:30 a.m.

Meteorologist Tom Wasula said the Weather Service in Albany has not been able to confirm if the storm can officially be called a "blizzard" in Dutchess County. He said the wind sensor at Dutchess County Airport broke last night in the storm.

The parameters for a blizzard include heavy or blowing snow, visibility reduced to less than a quarter-mile and wind or consistent wind gusts over 35 mph for a period of three consecutive hours, he said.

"It would be fair to say that conditions were near-blizzard, at least," Wasula said.

City of Poughkeepsie buses are not running and garbage pickup has been canceled today due to high drifts of snow, Commissioner of Finance Milo Bunyi said on behalf of the city Department of Public Works.

State police reopened Interstate 84 at 7 a.m. after it was closed for over 12 hours. Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday state police closed the eastbound portion of the highway from Route 9 to Ludingtonville Road and westbound from Interstate 684 to Route 9 after a trooper reported that the road was impassible, police said.

.....it is my understanding that MTA and LIRR are also closed.

LIRR service is suspended. This does not surprise me as they suspend service when there is 5 inches of snow.

NYC Transit (subway) has many changes in scheduling due to the snow.

As of about 8 this morning all MNR service is "temporarily" suspended to inspect switches in the Bronx.

I'm just glad I don't have to go to work today!
