Greenburgh Police EMS & The 2011 Budget

Does Greenburgh employ more civilian EMT's, or just this one position? Hopefully, they will staff a full ambulance, and not rely on another police officer or firefighter to drive the ambulance to the hospital, therefore taking two officers off the streets for a couple of hours. This was a long time coming, somehthing that actually took too long, IMHO. Maybe it has to do with the new Police Chief?

A civilian EMT will be added to the budget ($38,287) to reduce reliance on having a police officer provide Emergency medical services. We will be able to assign an additional police officer to street patrols—providing enhanced protection to residents.

This would be a great idea since the shootings and burglary's in Greenburgh are going up at a fast rate. This would also provide more patrols in the Hartsdale side how town because they wouldn't need a cop to drive the ambulance around. Hopefuly they hire more then just 1 EMT and have 1 on every shift.

Greenburgh's trying to increase civilian EMS, one reason being complaints from residents that are losing police patrol to EMS calls around the town. They now often staff two buses on the road at a time rather than the usual one. Unfortunately, the medic/EMT still rides alone, requiring a cop to drive to the hospital.
