Lake Mohegan FD Engine 252

On Thurs. night 11/11/10, during the Lake Mohegan Fire District's monthly Board of Fire Commissioners meeting, the district accepted delivery of Engine 252. The new apparatus will be an addition to the current fleet and will be responding out of Headquarters. The rig will be equiped with additional equipment plus the membership will be trained in this new apparatus over the next few weeks. The committee was formed in November, 2008. The apparatus went to bid in November, 2009 and KME signed contract in Jan, 2010.

Engine 252 Specs:

-2011 KME Rescue-Engine

-2009 Cummins Diesal Motor

-8 man cab

-1500 GPM Hale Single Stage Pump

-500 galllon tank

-6 "coffin" compartments

-1400 ft of 5" supply hose

-Cab mounted Command light tower

-Front bumper preconnected Hurst Combi tool and Hurst Cutters

-Rear compartment preconnected Hurst Spreaders and Air Line (for air chisel and airbags)

-4 recievers (each side of rig) for 9,000 lbs portable winch

How do you plan on using air bags from a supplied air line off the rig? Does the rig have larger air cylinders? The operating pressure of most air brake systems is 100psi, and believe it or not those additional 18psi do make a difference when inflating the bags.

Amazing! I love the idea of pre-connected tools in the bumper. And the hose bed looks lower than on many rescue engines. Any chance we can get pics of the compartments after they are fully equipped?

Looks like it is just an addition (nothings will be sold) and it responding out headquarters according to article on website.

Looks like it can be a very effective rescue-pumper. I like the tools in the bumper, too. I've never seen that. Winch points on all 4 corners are so huge as well. That's something our rescue is lacking.

Nice truck does this mean that E-258 will be put in reserve status or just move to a different station

Engine 258 will continue front line service out of one of the substations, probably Sta. 3- Furnace Woods

Most new trucks these days come with on bord air compresser's or mako system on are rescue we have 2 air hose on every side for air bags and any air tool and it work just fine better then takeing a bottle out if its done right you can also run it off your on bord mako system all you need to do is hook in the rag at the end and go to work

that was decided by KME due to the time the truck was completed...just like how new model year cars coming out prior to the start of new for year

ok thanks another side question is any of the current rigs going to be replaced
at this time no current rigs are scheduled for replacement right away. Maybe over the next few years

If this is in addition to the current fleet, will LMFD be either hiring more career staff to cover this rig, augment how the current coverage is provided, or are the volunteers looking to have their own rig to operate?

All Mohegan has to do now is hire enough paid firefighters to man it. Their numbers have been cut so badly that they have more apparatus then people on duty

I heard over my scanner last night that E-252 Is OOS any reason to this
E-252 is in service out of HQ. Not sure why it was out last night.

What all is in the Hydrant box on the rear passenger side?
All our apparatus hydrant boxes contain small and large diameter spanner wrenches, hydrant wrench, 3" valve shutoff connections for both side caps of hydrant, 3" to 5" adaptor, flashlight, portable radio, and flares. The 5" steamer connection is preconnected to the 5" supply hose and mounted on rear of hosebed.
