Allegedly first in truck is suppose to have access to the front of the structure. Experience however would suggest that unless they're first out the door they'll probably end up stuck down the street

This is the way it should be, not just with experience, but with training. The engine chauffeurs should be trained to either stage just past or just before the structure (depending on which way the truck is coming from).

You can always add extra hose to a hand line. You can't add extra flys to a ladder.

Since every situation is different, there is no ONE answer.

If the truck co is the first unit o/s, the officer is the automatically the IC untill transfered.

Upon arrival to a 10-75 to a P/D and all the occupants are accounted for S&R may not be high on the priority list. If the are unaccounted occupants, then you may start searching before the arrival of a charged handline.

With that said, if the truck is first o/s, acceptable roles for the company would be VES, S&R, or mitigate hazards (utilities).

If there is command established prior to arrival, it's up to the IC.

Freelancing is one thing that we focus on preventing at the sceen. The levels of experience and trainning across the members of the dept. is too varied to trust that people will know what is the right and wrong thing to do at the fire. The best way to make sure everyone is on the same page is to have one person in charge...the IC

In Hartsdale, Either the first due engine hangs back and allows room for the truck to pass by the engine to get a good position on the corner or the building, Or the engine leaves enough room when it pulls up, that the truck can pull in right behind it and still have an optimum position. Also it all depends on nature or call, Positioning of traffic and overhead hazards.
