South Salem New Tanker

10 posts in this topic

The reason for the visit, called a pre-paint inspection, was to conduct an inspection of the truck and indicate any last minute changes.

"Say uh....ya think you can add another thousand gallons to the tank capacity?"

Its interesting to see a tanker on a custom chassis. Most of the tankers you will find are on commercial chassis. Are there any major advantages to putting a tanker on a custom chassis?

Im not 100% sure but i think this new tanker may be a reduction in how man gallons is carried compared to their old 1986 kenworth super tanker with 3750 gallons in it.

I made a mistake...2 actually. its a 1988 SandS tanker on a Kenworth chassis. Also it carries 3250 NOT 3750.

They are shorter, have a much tighter turning radius and generally because of this greater manuverability, they tend to have a greater GPM delivery rate.

We run a spartan gladiator cab chassis , with an 8 man cab, 3000gal / 50 class A&B/ 2000 gpm, At 41 ft long, with a tighter turning radius than commercial cab/chassis.

Do you find that you use the 8 man cab, or could you get by with a smaller cab with fewer seats?

Quite often it rolls out the door with a full crew especially when going on a mutual call.

Our tanker is the same as otisvilles it is a 10 man cab and is lucky to roll with 4 guys (including the driver). Ofcourse it is our last due truck.
