11 posts in this topic

After hearing that Putnam is now "Putnam 911" I guess us here at 60 Control are the last of the County Fire Control numbers.

We shoulda stayed with 40--Would have been so much easier for everyone--and maybe let the dispatchers keep their old numbers--

I was a member of a dept in Chemung County for 4 years, we never used the county number, it was just "Fire Control"

Keep it 40? I want to change 60 to Westchester 911. The way it should be!!!

I want to change 60 to Westchester 911. The way it should be, one PSAP. Let White Plains and Yonkers keep their own and standardize 911, EMD, dispatching and resource management in the county.

Why would it be easier to keep it 40 control? Putnam 911 isn't all that hard to say or remember. And the dispatcher numbers, use whatever as long as they give it when they dispatch and use the phone.

I agree there should be one central PSAP - it's shown it can work in MANY other counties... though I don't really like the whole "911" thing at the end of call signs... it can get confusing especially if you use 10 codes along with it. "Westchester 911 10-10" I think just "Westchester" would be fine.

The only thing we have gain up to this point is some new dispatchers and a new dispatch center. The original plan was for the new center to handle fire and ems and let the appropriate police agency tend to their non fire and ems calls. This way we would have dedicated fire/ems/EMD dispatchers. Right now they still are tied up with some police functions and due to being understaffed as it is have to split their time between. Yes there are no longer cops dispatching but the new staff is being overburdened already. I agree with one answering point--BUT if it is not a situation requiring fire or ems--transfer to the poilce agency. Let the dispatchers have the time to contend with the fire and ems side. Alot of them are brand new and still learning--(doing great so far I might add) but the fact still remains--they are understaffed and over burdened.
