OSSINING - Two girls, 14 and 15, were charged with arson in connection with a pre-dawn St. Patrick's Day fire that left a family of four homeless, police said.

The girls, whom village police would not name due to their ages, were charged as adults with second-degree arson, a felony. They were arraigned in Village Court and sent without bail to the Woodfield Cottage juvenile detention facility, pending court appearances tomorrow.

The house fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. March 17 at 7 Jenkins Court. Firefighters and police responded , finding heavy fire visible from the second floor of the single-family residence. All the occupants, including a pet dog, had escaped without injuries.

Volunteers extended hoses into the house and doused the flames within a half hour.

Arson investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. Detectives, assisting the investigation and interviewing several individuals, made the arrests.

No further details were immediately available.

This kind of pisses me off. The brothers from Ossining made their usual aggressive push into this home, and reported to us that the floor was partially burnt through in the 2nd level bedroom. What if one of the OFD guys went thru? Give these two a--holes the stiffest penalty possible!

OSSINING — Stepsisters Pauline Benefeld and Miranda Fernandez, ages 14 and 15, turned and looked at their parents briefly, offering no expression or remorse, as the girls were led out of Village Court on Tuesday.

The two girls, students at Ossining High School, are accused of trying to burn down their parents' home last week at 7 Jenkins Court.

Nobody thinks of the outcome anymore, they are all to caught up in felling sorry for themselves especially the youth today. If you look at the generations that are moving along, they just keep getting worse. They dont make them like they used to. I blame the justice system, stop letting people walk, and stop rewarding stupid lawsuits.
