Mattice was the school resource officer for the Franklin and Unadilla school districts.

The Franklin district has brought in extra staff to help people and students cope.

Trooper Jill - as she was called - seemed to make a connection with everyone.

For the younger students she talked about buddy programs.

And, for the older ones she talked about drug and alcohol awareness.

She would also eat lunch with the students.

Jason Thomson says, "The kids are very upset and rightfully so. She made such a huge connection with every life that she touched. I know I speak for a lot of people. Our lives our truly better for knowing her and she made such a huge impact. She literally impacted hundreds of children's lives in such a postive way."

Lorelle Chaloupka says, "She wore her trooper uniform very proudly, but the children saw her as a caregiver, another adult in the building that cared about them and that they could trust and turn to. I've had a lot of tears on my shoulders today from the smallest six year-old to 7th, 8th and 9th graders who have come and just needed a hug. "
