I was going to go out and about and look for a universal digiscoping mount, (as opposed to just ordering one online). Any suggestions on shops that have good stock and selection without going to NYC? I'd like to keep my money local if possible?

I hate to say it, but local camera shops are a dying breed. The only one I know of in Westchester is Sam's Camera, but I've always gotten horrible service from them. There's also a camera store in Stamford, but same customer service issues. Besides "Ritz", Best Buy, and the chain stores, I don't think there are any more local camera stores in Westchester that I can think of?

The best bet is really B&H in Manhattan http://www.bhphoto.com Although not local, it's easy to take Metro North/Subway there, and they have an extensive product selection, most of which you can try before you buy. There sales staff is also very knowledgable and willing to help. And your money is still kept kinda local.

B&H has a great selection but didn't have it anyway.

I found a swing away model at: http://www.alpineastro.com/digital_photography/digital_photography.htm#Micro%20Stage

It enables most any point and shoot to be mounted on a spotting scope or telescope and simply be swung in and out of place quickly.

Can you post some pictures that were taken using the scope? I would like to see how they come out. Each time we have those meteor showers I try to find a dark enough location to set up a long-long open frame shot, however there are too many lamp posts and house lights in the area. I have to figure out a good travel location and plan better.

Try atop of Croton Gorge Dam. THAT's dark!
