Big Nor-Easter!

NEW YORK (WABC) -- NYC officals are planning on as much as a foot of snow this weekend. NYC officials currently expect four to 10 inches of snow accumulation this weekend. Snow is expected to start after noon Saturday and lasts until daytime Sunday. Temperatures will be in the 20's with wind gusts, so this will be a difficult storm to clear. Saturday night will be a difficult travel time, motorists should stay off the roads by Saturday afternoon.

Snow is nice when you don't have to work, shovel, clean off your car, or drive in it!

That's exactly I'm retiring!!! All I need is clear roads next Monday and Tuesday, then terminal leave thru New Years Eve, and on the first--- like the song goes "Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow"!!!!!

Uknown if this belongs here or not but when will Departmente stand by for "snow coverage". I know i hear it a lot and do people actually think this is a good idea or not?

Ahhh, more snow. It sounds like theyre really up in the air about this storm (as per usual). Sounds like theyre not sure what areas are going to be hit and how bad.

It hurts me in the pocket if it does snow. Normally, i'd be out plowing making nice OT. Unfortunately, im out on an injury, so no $$$ for me for the holidays lol.

Stay safe everyone and be careful if you must go out.

Seth, you said it right pal; only nice when you dont have to work in it, etc. Wouldnt mind it so much if i were at Killington lol

I believe it's a good thing, since it would take responders extra time to get to the firehouse (or scene) in the middle of a big storm, better to have them at the station, ready to go.

I don't know if paid / municipal dept's hold over personnel or call in extra people for coverage during a "big weather event"?

My department does not issue a "storm coverage", or however it would be dispatched.

i know some of the FF's including myself, have cars that are crap in the snow. not to mention the center station (E-1. Tanker-1, Ambulance-1, Rescue-1, Tanker-2, and Brush-1) Is at the top of a STEEP hill, and its steep from both sides.

So since my car is udder crap in the winter. I have sometimes gone to the station and sleep on the couch, or upstairs (meeting room) on the floor.

Nobody in my department has a problem, and Northampton Control (dispatch) knows we do it.

If we get a call, we'll just say we are standing by at the station.

Hope that helps

A few of us if we have nothing better to do will usually wind up at the firehouse waiting for tones, and in general just to catch up. But nothing uniformed, although there could be if requested by a Chief.

If I didn't have AWD I would do the same.

One of my departments, Allingtown in West Haven, does storm coverage, usually. But since the UNH kids have all gone home (myself included) I don't think we had a crew at the house, unless some of the older, non-UNH members went.

This storm is KILLING ME. I gotta try to get to the Meadowlands for the J-E-T-S-JETS-JETS-JETS!!!!!! Girlfriend got me tickets and of course it snows like hell!

A foot of snow right now in East Harwich, and still coming down pretty good!

Remember to pace yourself shoveling, we don't want any casualties!
