Indianapolis - Mayor Greg Ballard will introduce the city's new public safety director Thursday.

The mayor will announce Frank Straub as his designee for the position at a news conference. Straub will take over from Scott Newman.

Straub was the public safety commissioner for White Plains, New York, until November 2009.

As White Plains public safety commissioner, he created a Police Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and a Fire Rescue Unit, both of which handle homeland security for that area. Straub also created the first ever Unified Special Operations Command (USOC) so that the Police Emergency Service Unit and Fire Rescue were under one command.
