Jack Osbourne wants to be normal

February 7, 2005

Jack Osbourne is giving up fame to be a fireman. The 19-year-old says he is fed-up with being a celebrity, after starring in hit TV series The Osbournes, and is now desperate to lead a 'normal' life.

Inspired by the brave heroes of 9/11, the former drug addict plans to enrol in a course with the New York firefighters. The single-and-searching teenager also quipped the uniform could get him a girlfriend.

He revealed: "I'm enrolling on a firefighting course this summer in New York. It's something I've always thought about but now is definitely the time to do it.

"Those guys do a tough job and I admire that. Since 9/11 I think people appreciate them more. Plus you get to wear those cool uniforms that all the chicks dig!

"I'm joking about that, but I do want to do it - definitely. I'm looking

into how to enrol now."

Jack also admits he has enjoyed the fame and money as the son of rocker Ozzy and isn't ungrateful for the life he has led. He added: "I am never going to be normal. But I'd like to do something normal for a while. This is the most stable my life has been.

"I grew up in a huge house and I know I am really privileged."

I assume by a course with "New York Firefighters", they mean FDNY.

How does he have that oppurtunity, and we don't. Talk about "privledged"

I'm really curious to see how this is accomplished.

So Jack Osbourne wants to be a firefighter; too bad he probably won't be able to pass the initial narcotics screening.

IF he stays clean, and I mean IF, since his rehab trip a while back, let's see how he does. Surprised he didn't sign up for LA Countys test. I wouldn't knock him just yet, but, if you're gonna do it, just do it and don't announce it to the press.

I'm sorry, I don't think celebrities, especially celebrities who are only such due to relatives, should be given any special oppurtunities that wouldn't normally be given to anyone else. If he truly wants this, then let him A) Get a high school degree B)let him work his way up and go through the same channels everyone else has too.

I agree that he shouldn't be given any special waivers or circumstances because of his "celebrity" status, but honestly, this has to be some sort of publicity stunt. Even if it's not, there's no way in hell that he'll ever get hired.

Yeah, David Lee Roth, whose newest hits include "I can't drive (this ambulance) 55" and "Hot for Nurse." I thought he was riding EMS in the Bronx, though? Did he switch to Rockland because he couldn't handle the heat and responsibility of being a City EMT/Medic?

For some reason, I'm not sure I'd want to have Diamond Dave saving my @$$. I could just see it now, "Boze de boze de bop, gotta shock..."

Oh and that was Sammy Hagar who sang "I can't Drive 55" Ahhh the days of my mullet haired youth!!!

IF and i mean IF he gets in he will be a crispy critter in no time. Hey Jack, this is not pretend land. you will get very screwed up if you make a mistake. rehab for 3rd degree burns are a little diffrent from drug rehab ok sonny.

as for the class maybe they mean like some county class, FF1? I don't think he can get into the FDNY on an off year without takeing the test. i mean even if your father is the Prince of Darkness, you need to take that physical and the written part.
