Lake Mohegan FD / 2263 - Specialty Warning Systems

16 posts in this topic

The Lake Mohegan (NY) Fire District recently took delivery of a new 2009 Ford Expedition, designated 2263, replacing its predecessor, a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban.

The warning system incorporates Whelen LED components including a Freedom SX lightbar, eight head Dominator in the front grille, 500 series LIN6s on the outer front corners and rear cargo door, roof mounted Traffic advisor and headlight flasher. Four Federal HideAway LEDs were also installed in the rear brake and reverse light housings. System control is by way of a Whelen CenCom system with a single 100 watt compact siren speaker. A remote control Go Light spotlight was installed on top of the lightbar to provide additional scene lighting, hazard identification and assistance in general low light conditions.

A 30 inch Havis console contains the Whelen CenCom control head, department radios, dual 12V power outlets, internal cup holder, armrest and six inch storage box. In the rear cargo compartment, a platform was installed to provide a solid mounting base for a set of irons, two extinguishers and hand tools. A Pro Gard cargo barrier was also installed to provide additional containment of any equipment stored in the rear, in the event of a collision.

The exterior graphics package incorporates red and white reflective striping and lettering in addition to a safety chevron that covers the entire rear cargo door and bumper

Specialty Warning Systems extends it's thanks and appreciation to the Mohegan Fire District for their confidence in us to provide their newest response vehicle and looks forward to working with them on additional projects in the future.

(For clarification, the radios shown in the console photo are not the actual radios in use by the Lake Mohegan FD. As the communications equipment was to be installed following conversion, spare radio heads were included temporarily for photo aesthetics only)

may have something to do with state bid. Pleasantville switched to white because the available red was pretty ugly.

What's that in the left side of the trunk?

If you look at the back of the car with the open tailgate that is a platform that covers the radios like the other 2 expeditions in the district

Correct...set of irons is mounted horizonal on the driver's side of the trunk plus just to the bottom right of the irons, there is a officers tool mounted.

I guess the "red" that Ford's currently offering would make the new Chiefs vehicle resemble the current EMS Response Utilities.......

The color was chosen based on the availability. Remember, this vehicle was ordered during the summer when there was a crisis with American automakers.
