La Grange Fire Dist- MVA Photos 10/28/09

15 posts in this topic

This accident occurred Wednesday, October 28th at approximately 10:50am on Titusville Rd. I/A/O Titusville Heights in the La Grange Fire District. Two vehicles - An Acrura sedan and a Honda Ridgeline pickup struck head-on on a curve in the rain slickened roadway. The Ridgeline flipped on its side and the occupants of each required extrication and were all transported ALS to St Francis Trauma Center in Poughkeepsie..... La Grange was assisted at the scene by the Arlington and New Hackensack Fire Departments. It was raining heavily during the extrication which presented many additional challenges for personnel and made it all but impossible for me to see through my viewfinder..... Another good job by LFD!

First shot in..... It was raining heavily....... The driver of the Acura and one of two occupants of the Ridgeline were quickly extricated and transported prior to my arrival...

Firefighters used an on-scene wrecker to help stabilize the Ridgeline...

New Hackensack Captain Chris Morely strikes a pose with an EMS umbrella as crews stabilize their patient.... The "EMS umbrella" which is something I personally have never seen, worked out quite well....

Bill, as always, great shots man! Kudos to you for going out in that weather to get these shots; shows your dedication lol. I was working that day and man was it miserable!

Nice job by all Fire, EMS & PD agencies operating. With the conditions not exactly on their side, they did a hell of a job. With the Honda "pick-up" resting the way it was, it makes for a tricky extrication, especially in the rain. Also, nice use of the wrecker that was there, definately thinking outside the box. Kudos to the wrecker operator for assisting.

I gotta say, i love the EMS umbrella lol.

why does it matter?

I feel the worst thing to do is put different levels in different gear. It confuses the public, and promotes career vs volunteer animosity.

You are a member of a Department that does that! Career has Tan and Volunteer has Black.... THE "PUBLIC" does not care as long as someone shows up and is able to mitigate the problem at hand!

You are entitled to an opinion, but by making that type of statement that's where the animosity starts. I don't care what color gear I wear. I love the job and I am there to help the public....period! I think we should be more concerned with training and being sure we can do the job correctly and not so worried about what color our turnouts are! But that's just me.

Remember also, on this scene there are multi-departments, NKFD runs black gear except for chief officers, while lagrange has the tan color.
