NYC / NYS Training Question

4 posts in this topic

Hopefully someone can answer this two part question.

1. Can a NYC CFR & EMT work or volunteer as such outside of NYC? Specifically, Westchester / Putnam?

2. FDNY Recruit training is obviously more intense and covers a ton more then FF 1. If you have FDNY guys in your department as volunteers(!), how does your department handle required training for each step of the rank ladder? How do you decide which classes can be 86'd because that guy is on the job in FDNY? For example, if you require FF1 and Survival, I doubt they need to take it, but what about specialty stuff such as HMFRO, AVET, TCO, FAST, and Officer classes?

Thanks.

There is no such thing as a NYC CFR or EMT. All CFR and EMT's are certified by the NYS Department of Health and can work in all counties in NYS.

It would apply to Paramedics, right? Different MACs?
