Bronxville Pete's Park Place Closing

It appears as the 72 year old "Landmark" business within the Village of Bronxville, Pete's Park Place Tavern and Lunceonette will be closing within the next several days. This is one of the longest standing businesses within the Village and was frequented from members of the Kennedy Family (when they lived in Bronxville) to current NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (also from Bronxville). Very very sad to see places like this go out of business. I am sure that many of us 'over 50' may have either had a beer or two in the bar, during the 'ole days' OR had a sandwich or burger in the luncheoonette. Really sad to see such great business go out. Not many landmark busnesses left in Westchester County anymore (either can't afford the rents or the ecomony is hitting everyone)

That's a shame...I remember going there for lunch back in middle school and high school. Cheeseburger deluxe and a cherry coke (a real cherry coke with the distinctive layer of cherry syrup on the bottom of the glass)

What a shame. Living in Mt. Vernon several years ago, I often stopped at Pete's for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I remember his dad sitting on a stool by the cash register smiling at everyone coming and going. He was a pleasant person and it was sad when he passed on.

The food and prices were the best. If his son still owns it, he continued his dad's legacy for a long time. I guess it's time for him now to have a break.

Sorry to see it go. Little by little, all the good places are closing down.

Back in the 60's and 70's, Pete's was "The Place" to go and have a beer and hang out with your friends without getting into trouble (I think that the drinking age was 18 back then). I guess with more of the "Fancy" bars now populated throughout Westchester, those old fashioned bars and grills (like Pete's in Bronxville and say the Old Candlelight in Greenville) are now just past fare for everyone and thus the regulars grow old and no new people are coming in to take on the tradition. Sad !

Hey I'm under 50 and I've had great times at Pete's! When I worked at the A&P, co-workers and I were there all the time for "liquid lunches." Bartenders were great guys and always had a beer ready before I got to the bar. Watched the Rangers win the Stanley Cup at Petes. One of the best nights ever!!

Man this is making me sad..........oh well. Have to stop in for old times sake. Anyone know exactly when its closing?

Hey I'm sorry for Pete's Park Place too. But let's not forget Johnny's Pizza in Mt. Vernon, The Candlelight like you mentioned, Ciaos in Eastchester, and old places revived like The Quarry Inn in Tuckahoe.

I never got over losing Costello's Tavern in the heart of Eastchester; spent a good part of my twenties and thirties in that landmark bar (I was even there when a certain Captain who posts here frequently met his wife for the 1st time. I won't mention demps121 by name lol).

It's a shame. Time marches on and things change. But if Johnny's Pizza ever goes out, I'm going into therapy.

Hello all. I found this post and had to comment. I'm Pete's grandson. And Phil's son. (Phil Jr.) It's so true that so many establishments close or go out of business. Pete's (and Bronxville) has been a wonderful part of my families lives. My grandfather started it 76 years ago. My dad eventually took it over. And I'm happy to say... this time around the economy and squeezing of the little guy had nothing to do with it. Although no doubt, with so many restaurants/bars/delis/bagel places/coffee shops/Starbucks, etc opening up over the years in Bronxville— Pete's has had lots of competition.

After 46 years of working in, running, and eventually owning Pete's— my dad decided to retire. He sold the business to a fine group of people. They will be keeping the Pete's name, and the family feel that made Pete's successful for so long. And hopefully, helping keep a bit of the legacy alive in their own way.

You're right. Please excuse me for not saying the same and overlooking the obvious; a large congratulations to an incredible family business. Think about how many years, the different eras of America that Pete's was open, the changes that occured over time, the same family through the years. Best of luck to all involved.

I can't help but to add the one thing that hasn't changed is the manpower in the Bronxville firehouse. Used to be a one man engine and a one man rescue on duty, now you have two on an engine and a decommisioned rescue. Some things are quite resistant to change.

I believe that it was a week ago this past Saturday, which was the offical last day that Phil owned Pete's Park Place Tavern. (Many a 2:00 AM Burger ate there)
