SUV driver leads NJ police on 3-hour Turnpike chase

2 posts in this topic

I know there was a hostage involved, so termination wouldn't be involved. Seems like there was no choice but to pursue her. But at what point do you weigh other factors, such as public safety? Do you back off for a bit and let aviation track? Is there a NJSP protocol to attempt to block someone in? I know spike strips never work, except for the officer right behind the vehicle.

A 3 hour chase is not unusual for California, but for NJ I don't think I've heard of one this long in NJ.

3 hrs and only cover 150 miles along the highway sounds more like a leisurely drive than a real pursuit. It sounds like PD did just enough to keep track without losing her.
