CAMP BASTION, Afghanistan – The U.S. military is rethinking its "golden hour" goal for critically injured troops, questioning whether it should spend a little longer evacuating patients to get them to a better hospital.

That is sound thinking which we've been applying in the civilian world for some time now.

Now... if we could all agree to apply that to all cases, not just trauma. i.e. STEMI centers not just in NYC, protocols for designated psych centers, etc.

I think we owe it to our patients to have a good working knowledge of what facilities have which capabilities.

Its coming. The NYC stemi and cooling center programs are pilots that the state is evaluating for implementation.
