Ordinance Aims to Warn Connecticut Firefighters of Danger

DERBY -- When firefighters rush into a burning building, they never know how much time they have before a roof or floor may collapse around them.

That's why the Board of Aldermen is considering adopting an ordinance aimed at helping to save firefighters' lives.

I know Alderman Lenart personally and this is a great ordinance that should be implemented in my opinion. With the dangers modern truss construction making us aware of the potential danger of this during a working structure fire is a must in my opinion.

I've known Dave since were were kids and he was active as firefighter and EMT in Derby and now is a career firefighter in Bridgeport.

Sounds like a great idea. I didn't realize that Frank Ricci was chair of the OSHA Committee. He's a busy man.

New Jersey has a law that all truss constructed buildings have to have warnings posted. The Hackensack Ford fire was one of the driving forces.
