SBVFD Swiftwater Rescue Training

3 posts in this topic

Members of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Old Greenwich, CT completed a Swiftwater Rescue Level I training program this past weekend. The course involved classroom and hands-on exercises. The first day of hands-on training took place locally near one of the dams in Town and later on Long Island Sound. The second day was held in upstate CT on the Housatonic River. The course was funded by an Assistance to Firefighters Grant and was taught by Technical Rescue Consultants and Blackwater SCUBA and Water Rescue.

Over the past year, Sound Beach has been working to expand the capabilities of the Water Rescue Team to be better equipped and trained to handle fast-moving water (mostly as the result of severe weather). The Department also has a dive team.
