Medical Control CMEs @ Putnam Hospital Center?

Hello everyone. I need to drum up 2 MC CMEs by June and was wondering if Putnam Hospital center ever holds any CMEs at the hospital (or perhaps at Putnam County EMS?). One would think that being a MC receiving facility for the HV Region they would be obligated to run some at least from time to time but I can't find anything past or coming up on the HVREMSCO CME calendar. Anyone know anything? I know HVHC hold CMEs that are good for both Westchester and HV and they aren't on the list either so perhaps it's something that's just not listed. Any information is greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind crossing the East River there are several Brooklyn and Queens Hospitals that hold fairly frequent physician led CME that a few Westchester medics I know use. Mamomidies, I can remember off the top of my head others I'd have to look up.

Thanks for the info but I only am really interested in Putnam Hospital, not NYC. I need HV Regional MC credits.

I haven't seen anything for Putnam. It normally at the tops center on a Weds I think. There is alot out there this week. If its distance there is some at HVP tonight & St Fran as well

Putnam County offers CME's every last Monday of the month- you can call 808 4000 and talk to bob coumo

Hey, just a little reminder because I know the new procedure is a bit confusing... only half of your physician contact CME's now have to be from a HVREMSCO doctor. I see you're from Westchester, so half your hours can count from stuff down there. From the process:

C. Complete 8 hours of Physician Contact CME per year for a total of

24 hours of Physician Contact CME throughout the three year

certification period.

1) A minimum of 12 hours of the Physician Contact CME

must be earned with a HVREMAC credentialed Medical

Control representative.

2) The remaining 12 hours of Physician Contact CME may be

presented by non-credentialed Emergency Department

Physicians or Physician Specialists if the hours have

emergency care relevance.

Yup. I just re-obtained my HVMAC and was told I need 2 MC contact CMEs by June under the whole retro-activity schedule.

The CME setup in the HV region is downright retarded. They make it so you can get 24 PC (Physician Contact) CMEs in 3 years but each year has to have 8 PC CMEs, so there really is no advantage to the new system. It's all smoke and mirrors really to make it seem like things are easier, when all it did was make things more confusing.

In Westchester you have 3 years to get (I think it is) 72 hours of CME, 24 of which is CA and the rest CME. No time restraints or anything. You can do all 72 hours in the last 2 months if you wanted to blitz. But apparently not in the HV.

Are the Putnam County sponsored CME's medical control?

As an aside, I have found Putnam Hospital very low on the list of EMS friendliness. I am not saying that they are unfriendly, I am just saying many other places are MORE EMS friendly. St. Francis, Nyack and Good Sam being the MOST EMS friendly I have seen. Perhaps some of that is to be credited to Nancy, Walter and Ernie as EMS liasons respectively on a day to day basis.

I recall Dr. Lippe, of GSH, teaching cardiology in my medic class and Dr. Kroening, formerly of Nyack Hospital, instructing some of the pediatric classes. Dr. Marcilla (Nyack Hospital) has been very visible and accesible to the EMS community. There are many more physicians and PA's and RN's and many many more hospital staff resources I do not have space enough to list who have not only helped to make our prehospital jobs easier and more knowledgable but just darned more enjoyable.

I'll do my job to the best of my ability regardless but being able to count on a broader, more cohesive team approach beginning in the field with us, progessing through the Emergency department, and further continuing care lends itself to a better feeling about our jobs and the differences we can make.

I attended a CME last week at Vassar. The doctor there was friendly and didn't treat me as an outsider even tho she'd never seen me before. Plus (and maybe this was a post-EMS week special) they had a nice spread of food - too bad I ate before I got there.
