WEYMOUTH — Years before he became a firefighter, William Noonan was rushing to the scenes of emergencies.

He grew up in the small town of Orange, where the police and fire departments didn’t have people on staff to photograph accident scenes. They would call Noonan’s father, who took photos as a hobby and sometimes sold them to newspapers. His son sometimes picked up jobs.

“My first picture in the newspaper was a train wreck,” said Noonan, 63, who lives in Weymouth. “I remember it had Colt 45 malt liquor on it, it was all over the ground. The railroad police came along, and as soon as they would shoo a group of kids away, there would be 10 more grabbing stuff.”
